I’m trying to build a simple IR tranmitter/reciever. The DIY kits are too big for my application. Any tips?

The transmitter is not as big as the reciever though. This has to fit on a motorbike brake lamp and I’m trying to reduce its size. What’s the simplest way to make a 12V IR tranmitter and reciever?

OK, they are not for 12 Volt, but if you are smart enough to build these, then you should also know how to make it work at 12V.
