How do I find replacement bed rails?
I have a beautiful queen sized 4 poster bed that no longer has any bed rails (the mattress and boxspring are on the floor) because the new set is one of the much larger mattresses and the rails couldn’t support it. I don’t even know what kind of rails they are or where to begin looking. I tried asking at a furniture store but they said they couldn’t help me. Any suggestions?
Go to a lumber yard or home-center and if possible bring one of the old rails with you and ask them to match it. Most will cut them to size for you if you ask. They may charge a small fee. If they don’t know what they are doing usually you can use 1×4 oak boards and they will work fine. If the new mattress and box spring are larger than the frame you may want to have some boards made that are the same thickness as the metal angle on the frame so the mattress can overhang a bit. You need to make sure the new ones fit between your 4 posts before doing all that.
